Call for projects: Wānanga site visits in Ōtautahi Christchurch

As part of this year’s wānanga, we’re inviting members and project teams to put forward landscape architecture projects that could be featured as guided site visits during the conference programme.
Site visits are always a highlight of the wānanga. They give delegates the chance to step out into the landscape, hear the stories behind the work, and learn directly from the people who shaped it. This year, we’re looking to showcase projects across Ōtautahi Christchurch that reflect the depth, diversity and impact of landscape architecture in Aotearoa.
What we’re looking for
We’re seeking projects that:
- Are located within approximately 30 minutes of the venue (Majestic on Durham) for conference-day visits
- Offer strong learning opportunities or compelling stories
- Can host medium-sized groups
- Highlight interesting approaches, challenges or outcomes
Projects further afield may also be considered as part of a special Saturday programme for delegates who want to stay on and explore more of the region.
Whether it’s a public realm project, ecological restoration, civic space, planning-led outcome or something that doesn’t fit neatly into a box, we’d love to hear about it.
What happens next
At this stage, we’re asking for expressions of interest only. The form is intentionally light-touch, just enough information for us to understand the project and whether it’s feasible for the programme.
Projects selected to move forward will be asked to provide more detailed information, including health and safety requirements, permissions and hosting logistics.
Why get involved?
Hosting a site visit is a chance to:
- Share the story behind your project with peers from across Aotearoa
- Contribute to collective learning within the profession
- Showcase the mahi happening in Ōtautahi and wider Canterbury
- Connect directly with practitioners, clients and emerging professionals
Submit an expression of interest
EOIs are now open and close on Tuesday 31 March.
If you have questions or want to kōrero about whether your project might be suitable, please get in touch at events@nzila.co.nz
We’re looking forward to exploring the places, ideas and stories that make this region so distinctive.
