Te Wiki o te Reo Māori returns from 14–20 September, and this year the kaupapa is taking te reo into the places where everyday life happens.

 
Through Te Reo Towns, Te Wiki 2026 invites people across Aotearoa to bring te reo Māori into public spaces, homes, workplaces, communities, creative practice and the outdoors, before finishing the week by looking ahead to how we carry the reo into the future. 

For landscape architects, there is a particularly strong connection. 

Our mahi is grounded in place. We work with whenua, communities, histories, movement and identity. We help shape the parks, streets, neighbourhoods, workplaces and shared spaces in which people meet and go about their lives. Language is part of those places too. 

Across Te Wiki, each day explores a different place for te reo:

Te reo in the home. 
Wenerei | Te Reo i te Wāhi Mahi 
Te reo at work and in business.

Te reo through movement, hauora and the outdoors.

Te Rangaihi Reo Māori has created a huge collection of free resources to support each kaupapa, including workplace and public-space signage, everyday phrases, language planning tools, environmental vocabulary and activities for home and community.  

Throughout the week, we’ll share a few of those resources alongside some whakaaro about the connection between te reo, place and landscape architecture.
