Call for Contributions: Healthy Urban Landscapes

Special Issue of the International Journal of Healthy Space
The International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA) Work Programme 17: Urban Health is calling for contributions to a special issue of the International Journal of Healthy Space, focused on Healthy Urban Landscapes: Designing for Well-being through Evidence and Practice.
This special issue invites scholarly and practice-based submissions exploring how landscape architecture and urban design can advance human health and wellbeing in our cities. Contributors are encouraged to share research, case studies, and reflective essays that demonstrate how thoughtful design interventions can create more resilient, inclusive, and life-supporting environments.
Themes include:
• Urban environmental stressors and well-being
• Lifestyle, behaviour, and urban form
• Blue and green infrastructure for health
• Community-based practice and co-design
• Innovative methods for measuring therapeutic landscapes
• Best practice case studies from around the world
Guest edited by Simon Bell, Gayle Souter-Brown, and Maryam Naghibi, the issue will be published by the International Journal of Healthy Space, a new open access journal co-hosted by the University of Edinburgh and Beijing Institute of Technology.
Article Processing Charges are waived for this special issue.
Key dates:
• Abstract submissions: Rolling from mid-October 2025
• Full papers: Reviewed and published on a rolling basis throughout 2025–2026
• Final issue release: Mid–late 2026
