Day trip to Mana Island

Field Trip - Saturday 18 May

Mana Island

On Saturday 18 May, after the NZILA Firth Wānanga and the Resene NZILA Awards Gala Dinner, join us for a work party and walk around at Mana Island, with thanks to the Friends of Mana Island.

It will include hard and dirty work - digging into scrub and removing plastic pipes (originally used to protect plug plants from pukekoe) not easy work, but rewarding. Gloves, spades and swords provided, but come prepared with appropriate clothing. The work party will be followed by a walk around with FOMI guides. It will be a great opportunity to network with a couple of our international speakers who will be participating.

  • There are serious biosecurity measures in place - information to come following confirmation
  • Weather dependent - skipper makes the call the day before
  • Car share or train to Paremata Station - please indicate when booking if you can help with transport

Bring with you

  • Water, lunch and snacks.
  • Tramping clothing. Be prepared for adverse weather, hot, cold, wet, etc. The island is exposed to wind and rain and there is little shelter.
  • Camera – there are great views from the island!

Important information

  • $80pp will be invoiced after registration for confirmed seats
  • We will operate a waitlist if the trip sells out
  • No refunds available once confirmed unless replacement found
  • Restricted to registered wānanga delegates only
