From Peter Kensington, Chair Environmental Legislation Committee
Thank you to those members that contributed suggestions for the Tuia Pito Ora NZILA submission on Packages 1 to 3 (Infrastructure and development; Primary sector; and Freshwater) of the Coalition Government’s proposed changes to RMA National Direction. We will be watching closely to understand the next steps in this legislative change process and we will take up any opportunity to engage further, on behalf of the membership, and elaborate on the recommendations that we have put forward.
The NZILA Environmental Legislation Committee working group is now turning to focus on preparing the NZILA submission for the Package 4 (Going for Housing Growth – Pillar 1) proposals, with submissions closing on Sunday 17 August 2025. These proposed changes seek to provide for the freeing up of land for urban development, including removing unnecessary planning barriers - click here for details.
We welcome your further suggestions on this matter by 10am Monday 11 August. Email to info@nzila.co.nz
Our next committee meeting is being held online on Tuesday 5 August 2025.
