Greetings Friends,
The Hualien City Earthquake, as terrible as it was, proved that well-planned emergency preparedness policies after a devastating quake in 1999 ensured the city fared remarkably well in the face of dramatic tremors. Our best wishes go out to all the people affected.
The Hong Kong Institute of Landscape Architects has launched their annual awards program - I just participated as a Juror for the Institute. I was so impressed by the award entries and how they skillfully connected into a broader network of open space, responding to the history and culture of the place. The result is projects that exemplify landscape architecture, the outcome of which is a model of green infrastructure design, contributing to the improvement of natural ecosystems and biodiversity in the city.
In addition, below is list of updates from IFLA APR and Executive Committee in the last month:
· University Accreditations across the Asia – Pacific Region
· IFLA APR to support the Strategic World Summit 2024 in Singapore
· Progressing the IFLA AAPME Awards 2024
· IFLA 2024 Student Competition has launched.
Please also note that the nominations for IFLA world-level elections are now open and we encourage talented professions from the Asia Pacific Region and abroad to contribute on the World Stage.
Finally, the Young LA Alliance is a free membership program providing opportunities for young professionals to grow and learn – we encourage all to get involved!
Happy April!
Warm Regards,
Chris Tidswell
