With 35 staff and studios in Ōtautahi Christchurch, Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland, Whakatū Nelson, Wānaka, and Ōtepoti Dunedin, our collaborative working style focusses on creating innovative, sustainable solutions that connect people to their environments. Coupling sustained growth over the past five years with our aspiration to be the most authentic, connected and creative design practice in Aotearoa, means we’re looking to strengthen our design, client and people leadership across the motu.
Your Opportunity
We’re looking for an experienced landscape architect to join the RMM team and lead our Whakatū Nelson studio. This role is multi-faceted and will involve fostering our workplace culture, championing the pursuit of design excellence, being the ‘go to’ person for our local team, overseeing the operation of the studio and being the face of RMM in the local market.
While the role has a regional focus, you will also work alongside our Directors, General Manager, national practice leads and other regional team leads to help shape the on-going development of the practice in line with our overarching vision and values.

We’re looking for someone who:
- Has 10-15 years’ professional experience in landscape architecture and/or urban design and is Registered/ Accredited.
- Preferably is already based in Whakatū Nelson/ Tasman district and has a connection to place or is considering a change in lifestyle and potential relocation to Whakatū Nelson.
- Is adaptable and can demonstrate an ability to deliver a multi-faceted role. You’ll still be designing and/or planning, but that’s not all you’ll be doing.
- Is motivated by a sense of autonomy. You’ll be supported by our Christchurch-based Directors and General Manager, and we’ll rely on you help us deliver to our vision and values while leading the local studio.
- Is experienced and/or has a passion for leading teams, with a focus on fostering a positive working environment and the growth and development of their team members.
- Understands that connection to the market, maintenance of existing clients and growth of new ones is critical to success. You’ll need to be present in the local market.
- Knows how to prepare compelling RFI/RFP responses, including competitive pricing.
- Has designed and delivered projects in the land development, public realm and residential markets. We’ve also got some identified growth markets that we can explore for alignment.
- Has experience designing and preparing documentation across all project phases, including being able to provide CAD (ideally Vectorworks) and Adobe Creative Suite oversight and guidance to staff.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
