Getting ready for Regional Spatial Planning
13 May, Online
NZPI is pleased to present an upcoming webinar; Getting ready for Regional Spatial Planning: Insights from New Zealand Spatial Planning Programmes. This important conversation will bring together the expertise of five senior leaders in the profession who've been involved in different spatial planning programmes across NZ. This is an opportunity to learn from those who've been part of spatial planning, in particular to learn more about things that consistently worked well and those things which, with the benefit of hindsight they'd do differently next time. We also ask the panel to reflect on their experiences and how these might be different to what is currently proposed under the Planning Bill. This is a conversation not to be missed as we all start to gear up for regional spatial planning work across the country.
Date: Wednesday, 13 May 2026
Time: 9:00am – 11:00am
Location: Online
Prior to the panel discussion, Emily Grace from NZPI will do a brief overview of regional spatial planning, including a reminder about what the Planning Bill says about regional spatial planning. The Bill is still being considered by the select committee so the regional spatial planning provisions may change. Regardless, we consider there's much to learn from our panel discussion about New Zealand spatial planning experiences and invite you to sign up now.
Our Panel will be facilitated by Liz Moncrieff, NZPI's Chief Advocacy Officer. We are grateful to our panellists for offering their time for this timely and important conversation. Our panellists are: Anita Vanstone (Queenstown Lakes District Council), Claire Gray (Auckland Council), Craig Batchelar (Cogito Consulting), Sarah Oliver (Christchurch City Council), and Robert Brodnax (Beca).
