what we do
The Institute has a quality assurance role. Members must undergo an examination in professional practice before becoming a Registered Member, and are encouraged to extend their knowledge and skill in their preferred areas of practice. Should it ever be necessary, the public can seek redress with the Institute over the conduct of a member.

The NZILA is building a sound reputation internationally, and particularly within the International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA).

2010 Application Pack for Registered Membership

At the 15 April 2010 NZILA AGM the Associateship Process and Membership Review Referendum was ratified.

For NZILA Graduate members August 2012 will be the first Registration examination under the revised Registration System which will rely on the new mentoring and sponsorship regime which will culminate in a oral interview with the Registration Panel.
There could possibly be a May 2012 examination under the existing system therefore Graduate members have until at least August 2011 to be examined under the portfolio/interview system before the new Registration system will be adopted.

Graduate members will be kept informed of this timeframe via email from the Institute. Therefore, Graduate members have the opportunity to decide which system they wish to work under: ie

(a) pre August 2012 portfolio/interview
(b) August 2012 and beyond mentor/sponsorship and interview
